Recent changes to the building rules now make it possible to add a small, fully self-contained home to your property using the 70 m² minor dwelling exemption pathway. The exemption is supported by clear requirements for design, construction and Building Code compliance, and suitable documentation must be provided to demonstrate that these criteria have been met.
